The Russian Information Portal in New Zealand is an all-Russian information source for Russian speaking community of New Zealand and for more than 300 million speakers of Russian around the Globe.
The New Zealand Russian community is a fast growing ethical and cultural group. Present day there are about 10,000 Russians in New Zealand (compared to about 500 just 10 years ago) , at least 70% of them immigrated to New Zealand in the last 5 years. The vast majority of Russian speaking society of New Zealand arrived to New Zealand under normal immigration criteria and procedure (General Immigration Category); have a tertiary education, experienced professionals in research, science, industrial engineering and manufacturing, programming and business. The Russian-speaking community in New Zealand has settled predominately in Auckland, although migrant numbers in Wellington and Christchurch have increased in recent years. Most of them still identify themselves primarily with their Russian roots.
It is a kind of tendency that lacks political correctness to call all people coming from ex-USSR as Russians. The community of those who came to New Zealand from ex-Soviet republics consists also of Ukrainians, Belorussians, Kazakhs etc. They are represent at least 15 countries and more than 150 nationalities. They stayed historically together for a long time and shared mentality, culture, social values, and, the most important, Russian language.
Our main goal is to help these Russian speakers get the opportunities that they are seeking in New Zealand and become an integrated part of New Zealand society. This, we hope to accomplish by providing them with the most comprehensive, accurate and up-to date information about all aspects of living in New Zealand.
Also, we try to keep our readers updated about what is going on in different parts and countries of the ex-USSR. These topics draw the interest of both newcomers and permanent settlers in New Zealand for whom Russian is a mother tongue.
For companies with Russian-New Zealand context we offer the opportunity to publish news on our site.
The main language of this site is Russian, therefore the English content is still in development and will be very different from the Russian. For English speaking people we'll have the Russian Information, the Russian Cooking Book and some more sections.
